Slott vs glossgenius

Slott vs GlossGenius: which is better for barbers?

Your hands are covered in hair and the phone's buzzing on the counter. You can't grab it. You're mid-fade. By the time you finish, there's a missed call and no voicemail, and that person already texted three other shops. That call was probably worth $40. Maybe a regular for the next ten years.

That exact moment is why I built Slott. I got tired of bleeding bookings to my own hands being full.

So let me be straight with you about how Slott and GlossGenius actually differ, because they're solving two pretty different problems even though they look similar on a homepage.

GlossGenius is a really good all-in-one. Booking site, payments, a card reader, reminders, a little marketing AI. If you want one app that runs the whole front-of-house and you're fine answering your own phone, it's a legit pick. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

Slott does one thing and tries to do it cold. When someone calls or texts and you don't pick up, Slott answers. Out loud. It talks to them, figures out what they want, checks your calendar, and books it. The client never knows you were elbow-deep in someone's beard. They just got a confirmation.

Now the fees, because this is where it gets real for barbers. We do a lot of small transactions. Twenty bucks here, forty there, all day. Slott charges $0 to book. Your client never pays a cent to make an appointment. GlossGenius doesn't take a booking commission either, which is good, but you're paying a flat 2.6% on every card swipe through their processor. At $8,000/month in card revenue that's about $232/month all-in with their base plan. Death by a hundred small cuts. Run the math on your own volume before you sign anything.

Where GlossGenius genuinely wins: if you want your booking, your card reader, your payroll, and your client list all under one roof, it's cleaner. One login. One bill. Their card hardware is cheap to start. And honestly their automated reminders are solid.

Where it falls short for me: it doesn't pick up the phone and talk. People still call. Older clients especially. They call, nobody answers, and that booking walks. GlossGenius leans on you to catch the call or on the client to go book themselves online. Some will. A lot won't.

My verdict. If you're a solo barber or stylist and your biggest leak is missed calls and unread texts while your hands are busy, get Slott. That's the hole it plugs, and it plugs it hard, with no booking fees on top. If you don't miss many calls and you'd rather have payments, POS, and marketing bundled into one platform, GlossGenius is a fair choice and I'd tell you to take the free trial.

Different tools. Pick the one that fixes the thing actually costing you money.
